New Program Brings Global Microfinance Pioneers to UNH May 31 - June 12

DURHAM, N.H. - Microfinance, the business of providing small loans and other financial services to poor and self-employed clients who generally lack access to traditional banking, has emerged as a major but extremely complex arrow in the global anti-poverty quiver. Now, as the rapidly growing field weathers the worst financial crisis in half a decade, microfinance leaders from around the globe will gather at the University of New Hampshire for its first-ever Sustainable Microenterprise & Development Program (SMDP), a project of the Carsey Institute at UNH. 

UNH Whittemore School Offers Summer Marketing Courses For Job Seekers

DURHAM, N.H. - In tough economic times when job candidates must stand out above the rest, the University of New Hampshire Whittemore School of Business and Economics announces the return of summer session classes focusing on job seekers marketing themselves toward potential employers.

The Whittemore School is offering three classes to help job seekers: "Selling Yourself in a Tough Economy," "Social Media," and "Web-Based Marketing."

UNH Relay for Life Turns into Start of New Life with Marriage Proposal

DURHAM, N.H. -As a senior at the University of New Hampshire, Jessica Keravich recently wrapped up her last stint as co-chairman of the UNH Relay for Life team. The 24-hour walkathon that raises money for the American Cancer Society is important to Keravich, who lost her mother to the disease when she was 12.

But there's little chance she'll forget her last Relay for Life as a UNH student; during this year's event, Chris Forbes, her boyfriend of three years, proposed.

Partnership Between State and UNH Will Help Five Innovative New Hampshire Companies Bring Products to Market, Create Jobs

CONCORD - Gov. John Lynch and University of New Hampshire President Mark W. Huddleston today announced the first five businesses selected to participate in the Green Launching Pad, which will help innovative companies bring new products to market and create jobs.

The Green Launching Pad is a partnership between the state and the university that will provide intensive support to New Hampshire companies working to bring clean new energy products to market. 

Ward Named UNH Manchester Interim Dean

DURHAM, N.H. -- University Professor and Provost John Aber announced the appointment of Professor Sally Ward as interim dean of University of New Hampshire Manchester effective July 1, 2010, for a two-year term.

Ward, professor of sociology at UNH and a senior faculty advisor in the Carsey Institute, has 30 years of experience teaching at UNH. She will assume the position currently held by Dean Kristin Woolever, who will leave Manchester to assume the presidency at Prescott College in Arizona July 1.

UNH Hosts Education Reform Symposium With Political Leaders May 10

DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire education students who soon will become teachers will present state political leaders with their best ideas for school improvement at an educational reform symposium in May.

The education reform symposium will be held Monday, May 10, 2010, 4 to 7 p.m., in the Memorial Union Building Theater I. The event is free and open to the public. The forum is sponsored by the Class of 54 Fund.

Institute on Disability Receives DOE Grant for Autism Education

DURHAM, N.H. - The Institute on Disability (IOD) at the University of New Hampshire has received $450,000 from the U.S. Department of Education for the National Inclusive Education Initiative (NIEI), a national center that focuses on best practices in inclusive education for students with autism and related disabilities.
