Behzad Mirhashem

Director of Criminal Practice Clinic and Associate Professor of Law

 

Before joining UNH Law in 2015, Profesor Mirhashem was a public defender in New Hampshire from 1993 to 2008, handling cases ranging from disorderly conduct to homicide.  For three of those years, he was an Assistant Appellate Defender, arguing criminal appeals before the NH Supreme Court. He then joined the Federal Public Defender Office, where he handled trial and appellate level cases in federal court in Boston and Concord for several years. After leaving the Federal Public Defender Office, he opened a private criminal defense practice in Manchester.

He was an adjunct professor at UNH Law for almost a decade and joined as a full-time faculty member in 2015. In his role as director of the Criminal Practice Clinic, he supervises UNH Law students who handle criminal cases on behalf of indigent defendants in New Hampshire courts. He also teaches Criminal Procedure and Evidence.
