Two new exhibitions will be on display at the Museum of Art beginning Aug. 31- Oct. 16, 2016. A public reception will be held on Thurs., Sept. 8, 6pm-8pm. The Museum is open to the public and free of charge.

In conjunction with the University’s 150 year anniversary, the museum showcases two exhibitions celebrating scholarly, professional, artistic success for UNH students, faculty, staff and alumni. The first exhibit, 7,000 Miles from Durham, Margaret Carson Hubbard in Africa and Marion E. James in India, guest curated by Catherine Hunter, features work highlighting African and Indian material culture. The works were donated to the Museum of Art by two scholars and intrepid travelers with close ties to the University. Hubbard, a highly regarded African specialist, collected and documented utilitarian and ceremonial objects made in the 1930s by the Lozi People of Barotseland, while James, professor of History, acquired colorful Mughal and Rajput paintings from the seventeenth to nineteenth century that depict court-life and illustrate literary scenes. This exhibition is funded in part by the Margaret Carson Hubbard African Studies Fund.

Also on display, the Alumni photography exhibition will display fifty-five prints by University of New Hampshire graduates. The work is a wide variety of aesthetics and practices from snap shots to professional images. Selections were made by Kristen Gresh, ’97, Estrellita and Yousuf Karsh Assistant Curator of Photographs, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. This exhibition and accompanying programs are supported by Friends of the Museum of Art and Public Value Partnership Grant, New Hampshire State Council on the Arts.
