Alternative Credit Pathway
Alternative Credit Pathway is an accommodation that can be approved for students who need to take fewer credit hours within a specific semester (12-13 credit hours) based on the functional impact of their condition. Many students may benefit from taking an Alternative Credit Pathway. Taking fewer credits (12-13 credits) provides the student with more time to focus on their specific courses, attend physical therapy or similar appointments, and build a more effective personal school-life balance. Students who are approved for this accommodation may use it for one semester or for their entire time at UNH. Students who are approved for this accommodation should communicate their plans for its use with SAS. SAS will coordinate with Financial Aid and Student Accounts on a semester-by-semester basis.
Foreign Language Substitution
All students at UNH are required to fulfill the foreign language requirement. There are some students, based on the needs related to their disability, for whom foreign language courses could present an unreasonable barrier to completing their degree. In these situations, the student can petition for a foreign language substitution. It should be noted that there is no exemption from the requirement, but students eligible for this accommodation can petition to complete the requirement in a different way. Depending on the individual circumstance, the substitution could include one of the following:
- 2 semesters of ASL
- 2 World Culture courses approved by the dean’s office within the student’s college
- 2 Linguistic courses approved by the dean’s office within the student’s college (per Dean approved alternate plan)
Priority Registration
To assist with creating an effective schedule, some students may be approved for priority registration. This is often the case for students who require specific times due to condition management or due to on-going medical appointments that cannot be rescheduled. When this is the case, priority registration may be appropriate.
Service Animals
Service animals are a specific type of support that a student may utilize. For more information about service animals, please view the UNH Service Animal Policy.
