UNH offers a wide variety of living spaces for students. Options include singles, doubles, apartments, suites, and other types of spaces. Some students will require a specific type of space based on the functional needs of their condition. Most commonly this includes:
- Access to a single
- Access to a double
- Access to a limited use bathroom
Please note, the availability of certain placement accommodations is dependent on the availability of the spaces or supports. Even if approved, all placements are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.
Key Things to Know
- Accommodation availability varies based on the specific hall. Depending on availability, students may be placed in halls across campus to meet the student need.
- SAS cannot guarantee a specific placement (i.e. location, building, floor, or room). Placements are made by housing based on both need and availability.
- There are a range of bathroom spaces available on campus, but there are no fully private bathrooms available in on-campus housing.
Student Responsibilities
Students are responsible for…
- Meeting all student accommodation responsibilities.
- Exploring the housing options on campus to understand the features and structure of the different communities.
- Requesting the accommodation as soon as possible. Ideally the student should request accommodations at the same time as they apply for housing.
- Abiding by all university housing policies and procedures.
- Working with housing related to any placement concerns or issues.
Placement Accommodation Process
- Student requests a housing accommodation as far in advance of the housing request deadline as possible - While housing accommodations can be approved throughout the year, it is highly recommended that housing accommodations are requested as close to housing deadlines as possible. UNH has limited placement options, so making a request later in the housing selection cycle will likely impact the availability of placements.
- Student and SAS explore the accommodation need and housing possibilities on campus - Students are required to meet with SAS to discuss housing accommodations. Within that meeting, the student and SAS can also discuss types of placements available on campus. It is also recommended that the student reach out directly to housing to discuss placement options on campus.
- Once approved, SAS communicates the approval to housing - Once approved, SAS communicates the approved accommodation to housing. The student's name is added to a housing accommodation spreadsheet. This does not include any information about the student's condition. It includes their name, ID, and approved accommodation.
- Housing searches for an appropriate placement - Once housing is notified, they will look for a placement that meets the needs of the student. If a placement is not immediately available due to availability limitations, the student’s name will be added to a waitlist. Housing will then notify the student if the placement becomes available.
No. While there are apartments in both Gables and Woodside, these are all shared spaces. UNH does not offer individual apartment spaces to students.
Housing works diligently to meet all housing needs. However, placements are subject to availability and housing may not be able to meet late requests. When the need cannot be directly met, housing adds the student's name to the waitlist in case a placement becomes available.
No. While SAS can approve accommodations related to student need, we cannot approve a specific building. Availability is limited and finding an a space that meets the accommodation needs may require exploring a variety of different residence halls.
