Accessibility Related Housing Accommodations
There are a wide variety of different residential spaces on campus. Though accessibility is a priority, not all residence halls and room spaces have the same accessibility features. When students require certain features to be present within their room, students may request those features to be present. Commonly requested accessibility supports include:
- Installation of accessibility features (i.e. visual fire alarm, bed shaker, etc.)
- Ability to install specific need-related furniture
- First floor location or elevator access
- Access to an air conditioner
Early Release from the Room & Board Agreement
UNH Housing & Residential Life have listed pre-approved reasons for an early release from the Room & Board Agreement and a student’s housing assignment. These include:
- Graduation
- Study abroad
- Internship outside of a commutable distance
- University withdrawal/leave of absence.
Once one of these reasons is confirmed, a student will be released from the Room & Board Agreement without penalty.
Generally, students who do not demonstrate one of the above pre-approved reasons for early release may not be released early from the agreement. However, a qualified student with a disability may request an early release as part of the interactive accommodations process. SAS will assist in understanding the need, the barriers faced, and determining reasonable accommodations.
Emotional Support Animals (ESA)
An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is an animal that provides emotional support which alleviates one or more identified symptoms or effects of an individual’s disability. Appropriate documentation is required to establish that the ESA is needed for the student to use and enjoy university housing and fully engage as a student at UNH.
Placement Accommodations
UNH offers a wide variety of living spaces for students. Options include singles, doubles, apartments, suites, and other types of spaces. Some students will require a specific type of space based on the functional needs of their condition. Most commonly this includes:
- Access to a single
- Access to a double
- Access to a limited use bathroom
