Genio Notetaking Software

Genio (formerly Glean) is a notetaking support that is approved for specific SAS students. The benefit of Genio is that it allows you to take notes and audio record at the same time. This support is available in both mobile and web formats and it can be utilized for both in-person or remote courses. While using Genio, students can:

  • Record audio on your device
  • During the recording, add your personal notes, add headings, mark things as important, and mark things for review
  • After the recording, access a transcript, insert images, webpages, and definitions, organize your notes, view and download your notes, export your notes to another format, and utilize the “quiz” feature.

Key Things to Know

  • Genio is not automatically available to all SAS registered students. It must be specifically approved for use by SAS.
  • Since Genio is recording audio, students are required to sign an Audio Recording Agreement prior to utilizing Genio. Students must sign the agreement before any recording takes place in a course.
  • If Genio is not being utilized by the student, or is being used inappropriately, SAS can revoke student access to Genio at any time.

Student Responsibilities

Students are responsible for…

  • Meeting all student accommodation responsibilities
  • Prior to recording, signing the Audio Recording Agreement and talking with their instructors. As needed, SAS can confirm for instructors that this agreement has been signed. Violations of the Audio Recording Agreement conditions will be governed by the rules of academic conduct at UNH.
  • Notifying their instructor prior to any recording. Students cannot record without prior notification.
  • If no longer utilizing Genio, notifying SAS in a timely manner. This will help ensure a license can be made available to other students.

Genio Process

Accessing Genio

Genio access is granted through SAS as part of a student’s accommodations. Access is initially granted for a two-week trial period, but can be extended. To be approved for Genio access, students should contact SAS directly.

Using Genio

Genio can be used in a number of different ways. Some users will utilize all of the various features of Genio like adding headings and adding content to their notes later. However, many students may utilize it for audio recording and noting key things within that recording. There isn’t one right way to utilize it. All students will utilize Genio in different ways. It is important to think about how Genio will work best with your notetaking strategies.
