Dear UNH Students, Faculty, and Staff -
It’s been a little over two months since Jan and I arrived at UNH. We feel very welcome and are beginning to feel at home; the campus community has been incredibly gracious in reaching out to us. Thanks to your wonderful suggestions, I’ve eaten lots of great food (maybe too much!) and cycled through some beautiful towns and countryside. I’ve begun to discover and appreciate the beauty of the state, from Lake Winnipesaukee to the Isles of Shoals, and look forward to seeing other parts of New Hampshire in the coming months.
As you can imagine, I am trying to learn about UNH as fast as I can, and to meet and listen to as many people as possible. I have enjoyed meeting faculty and Faculty Senate leaders; spending time with resident advisors, first-year students and Student Senate leaders; attending my first UNH soccer and football games; visiting with a variety of faculty and staff at our campuses in Concord and Manchester; and meeting with lawmakers, donors and business leaders. I have met with students who are veterans and helped to welcome international students. I have enjoyed working out at Hamel Rec Center and swimming laps in the outdoor pool. (If you are curious what I am up to, feel free to follow me on Twitter @UNHprez; I hope to be active with the same name on Instagram soon.) People from all over the university are helping set up even more meetings and events in the weeks to come; I still have a lot to learn!
I have been consistently impressed in all my meetings by the talent and dedication of the people of UNH. I am honored to serve you as president. I plan on doing these updates regularly, so I will be back in touch soon.
It is a great day to be a Wildcat!
