SJE 2.0: Allyship Workshop

An opportunity to further your professional development in Social Justice Education and engage in meaningful dialogue on concepts presented during your previous SJE session.   OPEN only to participants who have completed the 8-hr. SJE training.

The workshop discussion will focus on the following goals:

  • Gain familiarity around the concept and role of allyship within social justice
  • Understand the intersections between emotions and allyship
  • Consider ways to engage more authentically as an ally

Goals:

·Bring awareness to role of social justice and its theories within society

·Gain familiarity with common terminology around identity and systems

·Begin to bring an understanding the role of privilege and identity

Allyship

Goals:

·Gain familiarity around the concept and role of allyship within social justice

·Understand the intersections between emotions and allyship

·Consider ways to engage more authentically as an ally

Taking Action

Goals:

·Review the characteristics of systemic and individual oppression, and bias

·Consider actions to interrupt these systems to institute more equitable practices

·Identify personal goals for addressing systems of oppression
