Beinecke Scholarship

The Beinecke Scholarship Program provides substantial scholarships for highly motivated students to pursue graduate study in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Deadline: Internal: February; External: March

Value: $5,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. Funding must be used within five years of completion of undergraduate studies.

Eligibility: Undergraduate juniors who are U.S. citizens or US national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands., have a history of being eligible to receive need-based financial aid during undergraduate studies (slight preference for Pell Grant recipients), and plan to enter a research- or creative-focused master's or doctoral degree program in the arts, humanities, or social sciences. NOTE: Students in the social sciences who plan to pursue graduate study in neuroscience or clinical psychology are not eligible.

Major: Those majors in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (with the exception of neuroscience or clinical psychology).

Nomination: Yes; UNH can only nominate one (1) student per year for this award. Please contact the Office of National Fellowships.

Beinecke Application Deadlines

  • February 20, 2026, 11:59pm: Internal Deadline. Submit personal statement and CV to the Office of National Fellowships.
  • March 13, 2026: Nomination decision will be shared.
  • March 26, 2026, 11:59pmNominee must submit all edited documents to Office of National Fellowships by this date so we can submit by the National Deadline March 27, 2026, 5pm.
  • March 30, 2026: Deadline to submit Financial Aid Data Sheet.

Beinecke Recommended Steps and Timeline

  1. Review the eligibility criteria to ensure you are eligible for the award and identify the master's degree program to which you'd like to apply.
  2. January - February: Submit drafts and revisions of 1,000 word statement essay and CV to national.fellowships@unh.edu
  3. February 20, 2026: INTERNAL DEADLINE – Submit 1,000 word personal statement and CV to Office of National Fellowships.
