UNH ADVANCE, working within the Office of the Provost, seeks to transform the university by engaging faculty and institutional leadership to improve the university climate through increased fairness, transparency, and clarity of recruitment, retention, and promotion and tenure policies and practices.
While driven by the need to increase participation and advancement of women faculty, the UNH ADVANCE efforts aim to benefit all faculty members.

Faculty Recruiting (GEAR UP)
Develop consistent, effective, unbiased policies and procedures to ensure that UNH continues to attract and retain the best and most representative faculty possible.
Faculty Career Advancement
Support faculty in advancing in their careers by providing resources and programs in the following areas:
Faculty Leadership Development (REAL)
Design and implement a series of professional development opportunities for faculty aspiring to or in positions of leadership to build an inclusive, fair, and supportive institutional climate.
Research: Tracking Our Success
Analyze and report institutional data and conduct research to assess the impact of the UNH ADVANCE initiative on individuals and the institution through the following research studies:
UNH ADVANCE is funded through the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) ADVANCE initiative with the goal of developing “systemic approaches to increase the representation and advancement of women in academic science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers, thereby contributing to the development of a more diverse science and engineering workforce.” Learn more
