A Proclamation Declaring September 16, 2003, "University Day" in New Hamsphire

 

WHEREAS, the University of New Hampshire has been providing students with a quality education since its founding in 1866; and

WHEREAS, the University of New Hampshire is a public University that has served a population of over 10,000 students; and

WHEREAS, quality academic programs, strong research facilities and dedicated faculty make the University of New Hampshire the foundation of the University System of New Hampshire, as well as a noteworthy institution across the nation; and

WHEREAS, the University of New Hampshire has retained its traditional New England liberal arts roots while expanding and growing with each new year; and

WHEREAS, the growth of the University of New Hampshire has allowed them to serve more students, offer more programs and advance the institutional standing of the school; and

WHEREAS, there are over 2,000 courses and 100 majors offered in seven schools, allowing students to pursue a diverse curriculum that crosses disciplinary lines, preparing graduates for the global workplace of the twenty-first century; and

WHEREAS, many graduates of the University have gone on to many great achievements and many of the undergraduates currently enrolled have the potential to become valuable and influential members of their communities, States, nations and the world;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, CRAIG BENSON, GOVERNOR of the state of New Hampshire, do hereby proclaim SEPTEMBER 16, 2003, as UNIVERSITY DAY in New Hampshire, and I urge all to celebrate in the strong educational and cultural traditions that the University of New Hampshire has brought to our State, as well as working to excel in the noble pursuit of academia.

Given at the Executive Chamber in Concord, this sixteenth day of September, in the year of Our Lord two thousand and three, and the independence of the United States of America, two hundred and twenty-eight.
