Occupational Safety Committee Charter

Purpose

The purpose of the Occupational Safety Committee (OSC) is to ensure that all students, faculty, staff, and visitors are provided a safe environment on campus. This committee serves as an advisory group concerned with safety, health, and environmental protection. Its purpose is to assist in the identification and control of workplace hazards. Through quarterly meetings, recommendations are made to the administration for addressing hazards and improving safety.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the OSC include:

  1. Review and address occupational health and safety concerns across the UNH campus,

  2. Conduct appropriate reviews of UNH's occupational health and safety programs,

  3. Develop policies and guidelines to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, and

  4. Serve in an advisory capacity to the Vice President for Research and Public Service

Membership

Membership consists of faculty and staff from those departments that are impacted the greatest by health and safety compliance issues.

Committee Meetings

The Committee shall meet no less than four times per year. A quorum shall be greater than 50% of the Committee membership. All matters requiring a vote by the OSC requires a simple majority of the quorum.Members are appointed for a 2 year term and are expected to attend quarterly committee meetings. In the event that a member cannot attend a committee meeting, the member shall designate an attendee to represent their respective department(s). The designee will have no voting rights. Minutes and agendas will be published on the Office of Environmental Health and Safety website for campus review.
