Jessica's research investigates the use of enriched live feed to introduce zebrafish to soybean meal in early life stages. The goal is to induce epigenetic changes in the fish to allow them to better utilize the plant material as well mitigate negative side effects, such as inflammation, when they are re-introduced to a soy based dry diet later in life. As fishmeal grows more expensive and poses a threat to natural fish stock, finding ways to use potential alternatives in fish diets, such as soybean meal, is increasingly important.
