From Blogs to a Job
After taking a creative nonfiction course, Hannah Drake '16, a Russian major, fell in love with writing. She switched her major to English and never looked back. Twice securing funding from the Hamel Center for Undergraduate Research, Hannah spent one summer writing a yoga blog and the next working on a fantasy novella about a mystery illness called “The Sadness.” Her dedication led to two internships, and those internships led to a job. Hannah is now a full-time employee at a local marketing firm in her “dream city,” Portsmouth, N.H.
“Always try to savor the little moments,” says Hannah, offering a piece of wisdom for the class of 2020. “College offers so many grand adventures, but the moments in between are where the magic happens. Sit on the quad and sip a coffee between classes. Make a new friend in the study lounge. Eat a giant egg scramble at 11am on a Tuesday. There are so many little opportunities to look around and just enjoy where you are.”
