“My research has gone virtual. I have always been interested in immersive narratives and have integrated postmodern literature, electronic literature, embodied installation art, and now augmented and virtual realities (VR) into my research and classrooms. Lately, I’ve been researching and writing about how VR can be a tool for furthering empathy (as all storytelling can). 360 images and virtual environments can really bring a reader into the frame, into a story. For my 693 Electronic Literature course last semester, my students made 360 images around campus, putting them into Knightlab Scenes. While learning more about the camera, I took this photograph in my own backyard, immersed in the beauty of autumn! To experience the interactive version of this photo, visit the Knight Lab site.”
