Elizabeth Carter joined the UNH faculty in 2015, after two years as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne, Germany, and one year as a lecturer in comparative politics at the University of California Irvine. She earned her Ph.D. in political science at the University of California Berkeley and her M.P.A. from the University of Washington.

Carter teaches courses related to European politics, political economy, and food politics. Her research combines politics with sociology, economics and history to explore the dynamics between politics, producer organization, the construction of taste, and market prices in high-value added sectors.

Her current research investigates the political construction of taste and value in the fashion, food, and music sectors, building on Carter’s past research on wine markets.
