Janelle currently serves as the director of operations for the state of New Hampshire Department of Transportation where he has been responsible for the maintenance and operation of New Hampshire's transportation system since 2010.

Janelle has been with the DOT since 1992. During his career he has filled executive management positions in both the operations and project development divisions acquiring experience in engineering design, planning, asset management, winter maintenance, project management and construction. He's managed a budget of more than $120 million and served as transportation lead for emergency response efforts in the state.

Prior to his work with the DOT, Janelle also served as the city engineer in Dover and worked as a consulting engineer and building contractor. He earned an associate’s degree in civil technology from UNH in 1981 and a bachelor’s of science in civil engineering from New England College in 1984. He is a licensed professional engineer in New Hampshire.

At UNH Janelle will be responsible for overseeing campus planning, the energy office, all campus facilities, maintenance, construction and project management as well as the campus power plant, water plant and all utilities.

“I am very pleased to introduce Bill Janelle as the new head of facilities and operations on campus,” says vice president for finance and administration Christopher Clement ’94. “Bill’s skills and varied experience as well as his extensive knowledge of the state will enable UNH to continue the outstanding work it does providing our community with top-notch facilities.”

Janelle said he is eager to join the university community and learn more about its operations and needs.

Janelle succeeds Paul Chamberlin, who will retire later this year.
