The minor in Latin at UNH offers a powerful foundation in classical language, literature and Roman civilization that enhances critical thinking and analytical skills across disciplines. Here you'll be able to master Latin composition while exploring timeless works by Vergil, Horace and Ovid in their original form. 

With opportunities to study in Rome through our Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies partnership and January term programs, this minor enriches academic paths from pre-law and medicine to education and linguistics, providing valuable skills in systematic thinking, precise communication and cultural literacy that complement any major.

What is Latin?

In the Latin minor, you’ll study Latin and the civilization, culture and mythology of the Roman world. You’ll be able to improve your fluency and your composition skills, and read in the original such classics as Lucretius, Catullus, Vergil, Horace and Ovid.

Why study Latin at UNH?

In addition to an excellent foundation in the liberal arts, the Latin minor offers a wide range of courses and opportunities. The UNH classics program is part of the consortium of universities that supports the Intercollegiate Center for the Classical Studies in Rome, and the department also manages a popular January-term course in the ancient city.
