What is the study of Latin and Latin teaching?
In the Latin and Latin teaching degree option, you’ll study Latin and the civilization, culture and mythology of the Roman world. The program provides the foundation for a career teaching Latin in secondary school. You may pursue a fifth-year of internship and study through the UNH Department of Education in order to prepare to meet teaching certification requirements in New Hampshire and many other states. Students interested in teaching licensure should inform their primary academic advisor to be connected with the advising contact in the Department of Education here at UNH to discuss possible teaching paths including a site-based license with the appropriate state’s department of education.
Students should contact their primary advisor in the Classics program to discuss different pathways to licensure, which may include post-graduate work at an institution that offers an MAT (or MEd), or seeking a site-based license with the appropriate state’s department of education.
