Northeast Passage has named Lani Fortier as its new executive director.

Fortier brings more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience, including senior roles with the International Rescue Committee, where she led global emergency response operations and managed complex, multi-country initiatives. Her work has focused on building scalable programs, strengthening partnerships, and delivering impact in high-stakes environments.

A former Division I student-athlete, Fortier is a strong advocate for the power of sport to transform lives — an ethos that aligns closely with Northeast Passage’s mission to empower individuals with disabilities through adaptive sports, recreation, and community engagement.

“I am honored to join Northeast Passage and build on its remarkable legacy,” says Fortier. “I look forward to working alongside staff, participants, and partners to expand access and deepen the organization’s impact.”

As part of the University of New Hampshire’s College of Health and Human Services (CHHS), Northeast Passage provides adaptive sports and recreation opportunities that promote inclusion, health and independence for individuals with disabilities throughout New Hampshire and beyond.

CHHS Dean Kirsten Corazzini said Fortier’s leadership experience and passion for the transformative power of sport make her an ideal fit to lead the organization.

“Lani’s perspective as an athlete — combined with her deep commitment to inclusion and community — positions her exceptionally well to lead Northeast Passage into its next chapter,” says Corazzini. “Northeast Passage plays a vital role within UNH and far beyond, advancing access, health, and belonging through adaptive sports and recreation. I am confident that under Lani’s leadership, this important work will continue to grow in reach and impact.”
