The Department Chair Learning Community offers a collaborative environment for all chairs
to share and receive peer support and build department leadership skills.
Depending on the topics of most interest to department chairs, guest speakers from around campus may be invited to attend the group to join the discussion and provide resources.
Following on the heels of last year’s visit from How to Chair a Department author Kevin Dettmar, this programming aims to provide an opportunity for faculty serving as department chairs to meet with each other and, when appropriate, with invited guests to learn more about aspects of chairing and to share their challenges and successes. Chairs are welcome to come to one or all sessions, as their schedules allow.
Session topics will be determined by a survey of department chairs prior to the start of the academic year, but may include budgeting and strategic allocation of resources, mentoring and evaluating faculty, space and course scheduling, Workday transition, facilitating conversations, and more. Follow-up before or after each session is welcome – please reach out to set up a meeting (in-person or virtual) or just plan to drop in early or stay late at any of the sessions.
Department chairs are emailed separately. If you are not receiving these emails but think you should be, please reach out and we are happy to get you set up (unh.e3@unh.edu).
