The Advocacy & Community Engagement Coordinator (ACEC) coordinates and supports community engagement in the advocacy and public policy work of Oregon Food Bank (OFB) and the OFB Network of regional food banks and partner agencies. This position provides collaborative leadership in community organizing efforts and develops and cultivates relationships with volunteer advocates, key community partners and the OFB Network. They will need to understand the depth and breadth of the OFB Network so they can support members in their advocacy and community engagement work around shared public policy priorities. They will be responsible for inspiring, empowering and preparing community members, partners and low-income people to support efforts to prevent hunger and its root causes through advocacy and storytelling. The ACEC is part of the advocacy and community engagement team, which is the grassroots organizing component of OFB advocacy, and works directly with the advocacy team at OFB.
The position requires a Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of community organizing experience, preferably in a public policy environment. Additional education may be substituted for experience and educational qualifications may be waived depending on work history. Proven ability to work in collaborative environments with a wide variety of people and multiple organizational partners is also required along with demonstrated skills in recruiting, training and managing volunteers. Candidate must be able to work in a nonpartisan manner with legislators, supporters, partners and others. Spanish language skills are a plus. Evenings and weekend work and travel out of the local area for work will occur as needed. Current vehicle insurance and the ability to use personal vehicle for OFB business are required.
