The AmeriCorps VISTA Coordinator will promote and enhance volunteer involvement and healthy food options in PCAV’s Family Support Programs, including Nurturing Parenting Programs® and Circle of Parents® Support Groups, in central Vermont. The majority of participating families (70%+) are low income or very low income and living in poverty.
Prevent Child Abuse Vermont (PCAV) is the VT Chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America and the National Circle of Parents. The mission of PCAV is to promote and support healthy relationships within families, schools and communities to eliminate child abuse. Our goals are to end the intergenerational cycle of abuse and poverty; train all who interact with children on proven methods to prevent child abuse and neglect; and empower children to be heard. Over 70% of PCAV beneficiaries live at or below the poverty level. PCAV serves thousands of children, adolescents, parents, caregivers and educators each year through the implementation of the following programs: Circle of Parents® Support Groups, Nurturing Parenting Programs®, Care for Kids, Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention, Nurturing Healthy Sexual Development™, Understanding and Responding to the Sexual Behavior of Children, Sexual Abuse Free Environment for Teens™ (SAFE-T™), Overcoming Barriers to Protecting Children from Sexual Abuse, Plugged In: Strategies for Protecting our Children Online, TECHNICOOL: A Technology Safety Program, Vermont Parents’ Home Companion and Resource Directory (in its 23rd year), and our Parents’ Stress Line, 1-800-CHILDREN.
Food & Nutrition Program:
+ Cook and create menus for programs
+ Expand food & nutrition curriculum that promotes use of nutritious food and healthy lifestyles, and encourages regular family mealtime among children and parents
+ Work with area bakeries, etc and the Vermont Foodbank to increase food donations
+ Locate free or low cost space for programs
+ Recruit volunteers to prepare meals and facilitate programs
Communications and Outreach:
+ Write communications for PCAV programs
+ Manage organization’s social media profiles (Facebook, Twitter, Hootsuite)
+ Create content for e-newsletters using Constant Contact
+ Assist in developing resources and raise awareness (special events, donations, in kind, grants)

About AmeriCorps VISTA:
AmeriCorps VISTA is a government national community service program. When serving a full one year term of AmeriCorps VISTA, you will receive a modest Living Allowance stipend and are eligible to earn a $5,550 education award or $1,500 completion bonus at the end of service. Other benefits include health coverage, child care (must meet eligibility criteria), mileage reimbursement, and training.
One position starts in April, while the other begins in June.
