The Farm Director leads the farm team and oversees the operations of farm and the implementation of the farm programs.

Primary responsibilities include:

Farm Management

• Striving to ensure the health and safety of all campers, staff and visitors to the farm;
• Developing a farm plan, planting schedule and supply list for the entire 2014 season. This plan should take into account the food and programming needs for the spring, summer and fall;
• Overseeing all farm systems and developing new working systems;
• Developing and overseeing a livestock plan for the 2014 season;
• Developing and overseeing site-wide composting for the entire 2014 season;
• Overseeing the appropriate care and maintenance of all farm related tools, machinery, facilities and equipment;
• Participating in ongoing farm work;
• Developing and managing the farm budget;
• Making all purchases for the farm, pending approval Eden Village Directors;
• Submitting regular monthly expense reports and receipts for all farm purchases;

 
Staff Management and Training

• Hire all farm apprentices;
• Supervise the farm staff and apprentices;
• Working with the Lead Educator to create and maintain farm staff schedules;
• Working with the Lead Educator to create and facilitate a staff training for the apprentices;
• Developing, in collaboration with the Lead Educator, learning modules for the farm apprentices and teaching these modules throughout the season;
• Facilitating and participating in ongoing farm staff meetings, check ins, and group practices;
• Facilitate a strong sense of positive ownership in the farm among all staff, program participants and campers.

 
Program Oversight and Implementation

• Overseeing the lead educator in developing educational goals and plans for each farm program;
• At the conclusion of each programming season (spring, summer, fall), conducting an evaluation of the farm programs;
• Providing ongoing training and support for the educational programs as needed;
• Leading various educational programs throughout the season;
• At the conclusion of the season, working with the Eden Village staff to evaluate the year and make recommendations for the future;
