Summer Outings for Faculty and Staff

Summer Outings for Faculty and Staff

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

This is for everyone who loves kayaking, or wants to love kayaking, or at least give it a try: Healthy UNH and Outdoor Adventures have teamed up to offer kayaking clinics and tours for faculty and staff during June and July.

And at $15 a trip, including the kayak if you don’t have your own, it’s a deal that’s too good to pass up. Scheduled are two sea kayak clinics at Mendum’s Pond, two trips down the Oyster River, and a full moon tour at Mendum’s Pond. Beginners are welcome. There is also a day hike planned at Mt. Major.

These specially-priced trips begin June 24 with the first sea kayak clinic. Read the details of all the offerings here.  Each employee can bring one guest.

If you feel like venturing out on your own, Campus Rec’s Outdoor Adventures rents kayaks and canoes by the day, weekend or week throughout the summer. Fees range from $10 to $13 a day depending on whether you’re a member of Campus Rec ($20 to $27 for a sea kayak). Tandem kayaks and canoes are $15 a day ($20 nonmembers) and $34 ($45) a weekend. A Hamel Rec summer pass for faculty and staff is $70.

The adventure program also rents sleeping bags, tents, sleeping pads, trekking poles and backpacks. If you’re into or want to try rock climbing, Outdoor Adventures has shoes, bouldering pads and chalk pots available. And check out the climbing trip they have scheduled for July 25.

Additional kayaking and hiking trips also are planned throughout the summer. Details can be found here.

Daily, weekend and weekly equipment rental rates are available. Advanced reservations can be made in person up to two weeks ahead. No phone reservations are taken but you can register online. For more information, email or call 2-3666.
