Upcoming Concerts
The music department presents the following upcoming concerts:
Feb. 26: UNH Concert Band and UNH Wind Symphony in concert Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 8 p.m. in Johnson Theater, highlighting the student concerto competition winners and the world premiere of faculty member Christopher Kies’ composition entitled “Academic Festival Rag,” featuring piano faculty soloist Arlene Kies. The Wind Symphony will perform Frank Ticheli’s “Symphony No.”
Feb. 27: UNH Jazz Bands, under the direction of David Seiler, Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. in the Johnson Theater. The Jazz Bands cover a wide spectrum of big band literature, from the classics (Ellington, Basie) up through contemporary writers (Bob Mintzer, Maria Schneider).
Feb. 28: UNH Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of David Upham, will present “Songs of Innocence” featuring faculty guest artist, Jenni Cook, Feb.28 at 8 p.m. in the Johnson Theater.
March 1: UNH Concert Choir, under the direction of David Ripley, Friday, Mar. 1, at 8 p.m. in Johnson Theater. Featuring the beautiful music of Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana,” the settings of Robert Frost poems; the works of UNH composer Christopher Kies, in his setting of poems by elementary school children from the Moharimet School and the poems of Celia Thaxter.
March 3: UNH Symphonic Band, under the direction of Mark Zielinski, Sunday, Mar. 3at 3 p.m. in Johnson Theater of the Paul Creative Arts Center on the Durham campus. The program will include works by Percy Grainger, Andrew Boysen Jr., Lewis Buckley, and Johannes Brahms.
March 21: William Ludwig, bassoon Thursday, Mar. 21, 2013 at 8 p.m. in Bratton Recital Hall of the Paul Creative Arts Center on the Durham campus.
