Joanna Young Named One of Top 20 CIO Rising Twitter Stars

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

A Huffington Post blogger has included Joanna Young, UNH’s chief information officer (CIO), on its list of 20 rising stars on Twitter.

In “The 50 Most Social CIOs on Twitter (and 20 Rising Stars)” (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/vala-afshar/cios-on-twitter_b_2474768.html) published Jan. 16, Vala Afshar, chief marketing officer and chief customer officer for Enterasys Networks, says he compiled the list in response to comments on a blog he’d written on the top 100 business, leadership and technology Twitter accounts to follow. A reader noted the list did not include any CIOs.

Young started connecting with other CIOs as she was growing her Twitter presence, which she says led to an Educause panel. (Educause is a nonprofit association aimed at advancing higher education by promoting the intelligent use of information technology.)

“We coined ourselves ‘CIOs Unplugged,’” Young says. “It started to grow from there, and got on the radar of Vala Afshar, who is a leading IT social media presence, and there you go,” Young says.

Her Tweets offer suggestions on, among other things, new ways of doing business, recommended readings, and insights on what’s happening in the IT world.

“It’s all about exposure,” Jason Boucher, social media specialist in UNH’s New and Emerging Media says about Young’s tweeting. “She’s the voice of information technology at UNH, and other universities and colleges pay attention to that. She’s sharing her knowledge and she’s engaging; she asks and answers people’s questions.”

To date, Young has more than 400 Twitter followers. You can follow her @unhcio. Read her blog at cio.unh.edu.
