"InQUEERy: Explorations of Sex, Gender, and Sexuality" Lecture Series at UNH Manchester
As part of its spring public program offering, UNH Manchester will be hosting “InQUEERy: Explorations of Sex, Gender, and Sexuality,” a free, five-part series exploring identity, aging, health, and the law from a queer perspective that will be held monthly on Wednesdays throughout the spring.
The first lecture in the series, “Queering Identity,” will take place Jan. 30, from 1-2 p.m. LGBT activist and attorney Mason Dunn will discuss LGBT identities and the challenges faced by this community in a predominantly heteronormative society.
“Queering Aging,” held on Feb. 27, from 1-2:30 p.m., will include a film viewing and discussion of “Gen Silent” (2010). “Gen Silent” considers the lives of six LGBT seniors and how their gender and/or sexuality impact their survival in the long-term care system. This event will be moderated by Barbara Jago, associate professor of communication arts.
“Queering Health,” which takes place on March 27, from 1-2 p.m., is a panel discussion with medical professionals about health concerns related to sex and sexuality.
“Queering the Law,” held on April 10, from 1-2 p.m. and led by LGBT activist and attorney Mason Dunn, is a discussion of past, present, and future legal issues regarding sex, gender, and sexuality, including marriage equality, right to choose, and employment non-discrimination.
The final event in the series, “Queering Faith,” takes place on May 1, from 1-2 p.m., and involves a panel discussion with New Hampshire faith leaders about the intersections between organized religion and sexuality.
All events in this series are free and open to the public. Events will be held in the third floor auditorium at UNH Manchester, 400 Commercial Street. Parking is available in the Arms Lot, behind the college, using the pay and display system. Events will be cancelled is the college is closed due to inclement weather. The Sidore Lecture Series, named in memory of Saul O. Sidore, was established in 1965 to offer programs that challenge existing information sources with new and vital ways of looking at the many issues in all phases of our society and our world. The series funds programs at all four of the University System of New Hampshire campuses, including UNH Manchester, to enhance institutional efforts to challenge students and the wider community.
