Cari Moorhead, dean of the Graduate School at the University of New Hampshire, has been appointed president of the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS), a regional affiliate of the Council of Graduate Schools (CGS), for the academic year 2022-2023. In addition, UNH will host the 2023 Annual Regional NAGS Conference April 20-22, welcoming graduate level educators from the states of Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, D.C. and the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Quebec.

Moorhead also holds national office as one of 12 elected board members for the CGS, an organization of nearly 500 universities in the United States and Canada that grant masters and doctoral degrees. It is the only national organization devoted solely to the advancement of graduate education and research. She has been an active member of the CGS for many years, and under her leadership as chair of its Diversity and Inclusiveness Advisory Committee, she oversaw the reaffirmation of a statement of principles concerning inclusiveness in graduate education.

“It is a great honor to promote UNH on the regional, national and international stage by sharing our work while advancing work of concern at public research institutions like UNH,” said Moorhead. “I am very committed to access and inclusion, particularly at the graduate level, and I am honored to have the opportunity to help guide and contribute to the broad dialogue on best practices within and across communities, such as wholistic admissions, student success, mental health and wellbeing, preparing future faculty and the responsible conduct of research along with robust offerings for graduate students’ professional development such as the Three Minute Thesis (3MT).”
