UNH Seeks Businesses and Organizations to Partner with Students

Thursday, November 17, 2016

DURHAM, N.H. -– The University of New Hampshire’s Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics invites local organizations to work with students in the information systems and business analytics program on team projects during the spring semester 2017. Businesses, not-for-profits, educational institutions, and governmental offices are encouraged to submit project proposals online at myisba.org/capstone. The deadline for proposal submission is Dec. 20, 2016.

Projects are assigned to teams of four students and usually fall under one of two categories: information systems or business analytics. Information systems projects may include the development of a database or website, a review of cyber-security protocols, or research into the best technology solutions for a client’s given needs. Examples of business analytics projects include the development of a performance metrics dashboard, a quantitative model and decision analysis, or a business risk assessment.

The 14-week consulting project course is the capstone of the ISBA program. According to Decision Sciences department chair Roger Grinde, “The capstone consulting project experience gives our seniors an opportunity to apply their knowledge to solve real-world business problems while also strengthening Paul College's connections and contributions to the local community.”

Project work may include periodic on-site project team meetings, video conference meetings, interviews with end-users, and/or off-site research. Each project team will be assigned a faculty adviser and a representative from the sponsor organization to help students define the scope-of-work and deliverables, monitor progress, and assess final reports and presentations.

There is no fee charged to organizations hosting a team but an optional donation of $250 is suggested to help offset program expenses such as student travel. For more information, contact Kimberly Clark at (603) 862-2567 or kimberly.clark@unh.edu.
