New guide advises how to report disclosures of sexual violence

Tuesday, November 7, 2017

A quick guide for updated reporting of incidents of sexual violence is now available.

Sexual violence at UNH includes sexual harassment, sexual assault, unwanted sexual contact, sexual misconduct, domestic violence, relationship abuse, dating violence and stalking/cyberstalking. If you wish to have a hard copy of the card, please ask your department head to contact the Affirmative Action & Equity Office at 826-2930.

Prevention is a core operating principle informing all of our efforts to address sexual violence and is imperative to creating and sustaining a safe, healthy and equitable campus community. To further clarify, if an individual is in danger, call 911 immediately. Otherwise, all instances of sexual violence disclosed to faculty and staff must be immediately reported by calling Title IX coordinator Donna Marie Sorrentino. If she or her designee are not immediately available or it is outside the business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., reports may be made via TitleIX-incident.unh.edu.

Privileged confidential support service providers are the only employees not required to report such disclosures. Those exemptions are Psychological and Counseling Services, the Sexual Harassment & Rape Prevention Program, Health & Wellness, ordained counselors and the Employee Assistance Program.

Sorrentino and Jaime Nolan, associate vice president of community, equity and diversity, will continue to provide the community with information about ongoing efforts to prevent sexual violence on UNH's campuses as well as initiatives focused on campus climate more broadly. "We look forward to working with the university community as we together continue the important work of building an equitable, safe,  healthy community in which everyone can thrive in their learning, working and living."
