DURHAM, N.H. -- In celebration of National Medical Laboratory Week,
the University of New Hampshire Department of Animal, Nutritional
and Medical Laboratory Sciences Program is sponsoring a lecture
by Alison A. Moy, M.D., medical director at Liberty Mutual.
Dr. Moy's lecture is titled "The Diabetes Story." It
takes place Tuesday, April 20, 2004, from 2 to 3 p.m. in Spaulding
Life Science Building, Room G70. Light refreshments will be provided
and everyone is welcome.
Just over 80 years ago, the discovery and implementation of insulin
therapy changed the lives of diabetics from facing a universally
fatal disease to one that required long-term follow-up care. Dr.
Moy's presentation will discuss the historical perspective of insulin
therapy, the data that supports the benefits of glycemic control
on complications and mortality, the relationship between obesity
and diabetes, and current therapies in development that are likely
to impact the management of the disease.
With a background in employer insurance and a private endocrinology
practice, Dr. Moy currently holds the position of medical director
at Liberty Mutual Insurance where her primary duties include calculating
mortality ratios of health risks. The focus of her research is on
diabetes, heart disease, obesity and hyperlipidemia.
