Language and Education Expert to Lead UNH Seminar Oct. 6

DURHAM, N.H. -- The New Hampshire International Seminar Series continues Friday, Oct. 6, at the University of New Hampshire with guest speaker C.W. Heinrich Wirth, an educational psychologist from Switzerland.
Wirth, director of the Teachers' College of the Canton of Zurich, will present "Languages and Language Education in a Multicultural and Multilingual Society: Switzerland and the Challenge of Globalization" at 4 p.m. in Room 330 of the Memorial Union Building. His talk is free and open to the public. Refreshments begin at 3:30 p.m.
In addition to his work as professor of educational psychology at Zurich Teachers' College, Wirth has taught elementary school, served as a counseling and child psychologist at an outpatient clinic, and worked with delinquent children and adolescents in the court system. He has been director of the teachers' college since 1994.
The International Seminar Series this year explores language from a variety of angles, political to cultural."Crossing Boundaries: Bilingualism, Culture and Education in the New Millennium" is sponsored by the UNH Center for International Education and the UNH Center for the Humanities Saul O Sidore Lecture Series,"Education for the New Millennium," with support from the Alumni Enrichment Fund.
