UNH Scientist Injured In Lab Experiment

DURHAM, N.H. – A University of New Hampshire female research scientist was hurt this morning when a beaker exploded in a chemistry laboratory in Parson’s Hall.

At 10:34 a.m. Durham Fire Department received a 911 call for a medical emergency call in a second floor chemistry laboratory in Parsons Hall. Prior to arrival firefighters received additional information an explosion had occurred in the laboratory. Upon arrival firefighters found a female with trauma to her left hand. She was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The explosion was contained to a small glass beaker. It was quickly determined by firefighters that there was no hazard to anyone else in the building.

University of New Hampshire’s Office of Environmental Health and Safety responded to the scene mitigate the environmental spill.
