James Ramsey

The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) has selected James Ramsay, professor and program coordinator of homeland security, to receive the 2016 Charles V. Culbertson Outstanding Volunteer Service Award.

Ramsay serves as chair of the ASSE education standards committee, and for the past several years has been developing a roadmap to frame the occupational safety and health profession, which includes the development of national standards of education and accreditation.

Ramsay recently completed a four-year term on the board of scientific counselors to the director of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) — a post to which he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. He currently serves on the CDC NIOSH Institutional Review Board.

Ramsay will be presented the Culbertson Award at the annual ASSE Professional Development Conference & Exposition in Atlanta this June.
