Richard S. Dewey, UNH professor emeritus of sociology, passed away Dec. 17, 2015, at the age of 103. He joined the UNH faculty in 1958, serving as chair of the sociology department for six years. Before coming to UNH, Dewey was on the faculty of the University of Illinois for 12 years. He previously taught at Butler University, Lawrence College and Aurora College. He retired from UNH in 1978.

Paul Brockelman, who taught philosophy at UNH from 1963-2001, died Jan. 8, 2016.

Brockelman served as coordinator of the UNH religious studies program from 1979 to 1996 and was founding director of the Master of Arts in liberal studies program.

Brockelman received the College of Liberal Arts (COLA) Distinguished Teaching Award in 1986 and the COLA Gary Lindberg Award for Excellence in Teaching and Research in 1997. More information on his time at UNH can be read here.

David Bianco, former director of Residential Life and co-founder of Elderhostel, passed away Jan.11, 2016. Elderhostel, now called Road Scholar, has grown to become an international educational travel program for older Americans. Read more about Bianco’s role here.

A celebration of Bianco’s life will take Friday, Jan. 29, from 5-8 p.m. at the Bellevue Golf Club, 320 Porter Street, Melrose, Massachusetts. All are welcome.
