Matthew Albuquerque

Matthew Albuquerque has been an advocate and pioneer in the prosthetics industry for more than 25 years. For his outstanding achievements, service and contributions to New Hampshire, he will be recognized with the 2015 Granite State Award at UNH Manchester's commencement ceremony on May 14.

Early in his career Matt recognized the need for more specialized, innovative practices for amputee patients. So in 1996, with an entrepreneurial spirit and a mission to improve quality of life for amputees, Matt founded Next Step Bionics and Prosthetics.

Since its inception, Next Step has operated with the same care, creativity and enthusiasm that Matt brings to all his patients. His gift for treating amputees, coupled with the specialized processes perfected by Matt and his team, have had enormously positive impacts on thousands of amputees from all over the world.

Matt operates three Amputee Care Centers in three New England states. Amputee patients from around the world, many whom have been confined to wheelchairs and have been in pain for a long time, have put their chairs aside and no longer live with pain because of Next Step.

Matt applies the same enthusiastic approach to community involvement as he does to his business practices. He is an active member of many charitable organizations, including the Manchester Boys and Girls Club and Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. Matt also honors service men and women not only with the country’s best prosthetic care, but with volunteer service to many veterans’ organizations, from The State Veteran’s Cemetery Association to the Wounded Warrior Project. Matt’s community work has not gone unnoticed, receiving numerous awards for his advocacy.
