Willem deVries says he first got excited about philosophy in part for the wrong reasons — “I sort of liked arguing.” The passion turned into a profession for the man who enjoys “mind-bending ideas” and dialogue. Today, as professor of philosophy in the UNH College of Liberal Arts, deVries helps UNH students practice the philosopher’s skills of rational argumentation and critical analysis. This past fall, UNH recognized deVries with the 2014 Distinguished Professor award.
