UNH Police Make Arrest in Recent Assault

DURHAM, N.H. – Police arrested a 20-year-old man late Sunday night in connection with the assault of two fellow University of New Hampshire students early Friday morning, Feb. 18, 2011, behind Christensen Hall.

Robert R. Verreault, 20, of 43 Whitman Drive, Fremont, was charged with second-degree assault, a class B felony, and simple assault, a class A misdemeanor. He turned himself into the UNH Police Department after a weekend-long investigation that led to his arrest. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the early morning assault.

Verreault is accused of assaulting two male students whose names are not being released. One victim was treated and released at the scene and the other victim was transported to Wentworth Douglas Hospital where he was treated for serious facial injuries and released. The victims did not know their assailant.

Verreault was released on $2,500 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Dover District Court March 10, 2011, at 8:30 am.
