Mars
Hill Blaine Water Co. Filter Plant is located
in Westfield, Maine. It is approximately 7 miles from Mars
Hill, Maine where the office of Mars Hill Utility District,
that owns and manages the plant, is located. The plant was
built in 1993 with microfiltration, slow sand filtration,
sodium hypochlorite disinfection and fluoride addition as
the treatment processes. A limestone contactor was added to
the plant in 1998 when corrosion control treatment was required.
The plant was designed to treat an average of 300,000 gallons/day
(1,100 m3/day) and a maximum
of 430,000 gallons/day (1,600 m3/day)
(Spencer, 2000). It serves approximately 1,480 people in the
Westfield, Blaine and Mars Hill areas (Kearney, 2003).
