Main interests - the geology of igneous and metamorphic rocks, metamorphic structural geology, and the combination of structural geology and potential field geophysics to model regional tectonics of the New England Appalachian Mountains, both on and offshore.

For the last several years I have been actively working with U. S. Geological Survey and New England geologists on projects of regional geology and geophysics. Over half of that effort has involved geology in the field - from mapping low to high grade metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks in New Hampshire and in northern Vermont (with Professor Jo Laird) to the "metamorphic tectonites" in the seacoast region of New Hampshire and southern Maine. Most recently we have published the new Bedrock Geologic Map of New Hampshire (U. S. Geological Survey) and the E-1 Continent-Ocean Transect from the Adirondack Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean floor beyond George's Bank. The remaining is petrographic and computer analysis, including computer mapping and modeling of structural and geophysical data. Several graduate students have completed their thesis work with me on aspects of those projects.

I continue to work on the problems of stratigraphic age and assignment of the metasedimentary rocks of the seacoast region and northernmost New Hampshire. Several of our students, working jointly with Professors Gaudette and Laird and me, are completing Honors projects on age of faulting and T's and P's of metamorphism of highly deformed rocks along the New Hampshire coast where exposure is quite elegant. Our efforts over the few couple of years will continue to concentrate on the structure and petrology of the rocks of the Merrimack Trough, the Massabesic Gneiss Complex, and the Rye Complex along the coast.
