Welcome

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. Civil Engineers are strong contributors to society. They provide responsible social, economic, and environmental benefits to humanity and enhance the quality of life for people around the world by providing safe structures such as bridges, highways, skyscrapers, tunnels and dams, and by helping to restore and maintain water quality and the environment. It is an exciting profession filled with opportunities at the national and international level.

The Department prides itself with a civil engineering program that has been accredited since 1936, and faculty that are nationally and internationally renowned for excellence in teaching and research. As a faculty, we make sure that you will be well prepared to face the challenges of today and of tomorrow, and eventually become a registered professional civil engineer. Our current (2007) enrollment is at an all time high, with 315 undergraduates and 60 graduate students. Our engineering research programs in environmental, water resources, structures, materials and geotechnical are vibrant and expanding to meet new challenges. Research expenditures exceed $ 6.7 million with multiple research awards from state, federal and private sources and several centers addressing issues of national and international importance.

To ensure that the experience at UNH is rewarding and fulfilling, we encourage students to take advantage of all available opportunities such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter, Students Without Borders (SWB) and other student organizations. Study abroad opportunities for one semester through our exchange programs in Budapest and Scotland, or our International Affairs dual major are also available. We also have a 5-year BS/MS degree should you choose to further enhance your education. Faculty are here to help all students succeed. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information regarding our programs.

Make a difference. Engineer the future.
