Since 1996, UNH's Piano Extension Program (PEP) has been providing lessons and music education to area students of all ages.
Lessons are taught by advanced UNH piano students and recent graduates of the UNH music department. The instructors have a demonstrated interest and enthusiasm for teaching piano, and have completed an intensive course in piano teaching methods.
In addition, performance classes led by experienced PEP teachers and Dr. Christopher Kies, director of the PEP and piano faculty at UNH, occur twice in the seven week sessions. These performance classes give students a chance to play in front of their peers, which increases their motivation and sense of comradery, and allows Dr. Kies the opportunity to give them useful pointers and monitor their progress.
A student recital at the Bratton Recital Hall is scheduled at the end of each semester for students to share their musical gift in a formal setting. The recital is open to public and all are welcome to attend.
Finally, students and families in the program also receive the most up to date information about concerts in the UNH Piano Department and surrounding areas, as well as occasional used piano giveaways.
