Karen Gilbert has been with Military and Veteran Student Services for 5 years, starting in a part time role in 2011 and being hired full time into the Director position in 2015.  Serving Veterans is an honor for Karen, an Air Force Veteran herself she is familiar with some of the experiences that the students coming to the office talk about.  During Karen’s time in the service she learned about discipline, hard work and comradery, many traits that are so frequently seen and talked about in the student veteran population at UNH.

Being employed at UNH for 25 years, Karen outlasted 6 Vice President’s.  Working daily to assist the Vice President in his/her work Karen spent most days assisting students, staff, faculty and parents in a myriad of needs that brought them to the office. Along with the work in the office Karen found time to complete her undergraduate degree, hold a position on the PAT Staff Council, the Work/Life Balance Committee, the Community Task Force, as well as helping out with the Therapeutic Riding program.

Many of the things you would find Karen doing outside work revolve around her husband, two daughters, a grandson, a significantly large and extended family and of course the four legged friends being horses and dogs.
