(603) 862-0643 or karen.gilbert@unh.edu

Karen Gilbert has been with Military and Veteran Student Services for seven years, starting in a part time role in 2011 and being hired full time into the Director position in 2015.  Serving Veterans is an honor for Karen; an Air Force Veteran herself, she is familiar with some of the experiences that the students coming to the office talk about.  During Karen’s time in the service she learned about discipline, hard work, and camaraderie, many traits so frequently seen and talked about in the student Veteran population at UNH.

Karen has worked at UNH since October 1989 in a variety of positions, to include Assistant to the Vice President.  As the Assistant to the Vice President, she supported students, staff, faculty, and parents in navigating a myriad of needs. Along with her work in the office of the Vice President, Karen has found time to complete a Bachelor's of Arts in Political Science and hold positions on a variety of campus organizations, including: the PAT Staff Council, the Work/Life Balance Committee, and the Community Task Force.  She also volunteers with the Therapeutic Riding program.

Many of the things you will find Karen doing outside work revolve around her husband, two daughters, two grandsons, a significantly large and extended family, and, of course, her many four-legged friends.
