Ruml Wheeler

Professor of Computer Science

Professor Wheeler's research focuses primarily in artificial intelligence, although he has  interests in robotics, operations research, information visualization, and cognitive science. His main goal is to understand how to build autonomous systems; for example, how a robot should decide what to do next. He is also interested in decision support systems and in natural examples of cognition, such as humans.

With a current focus  on methods for heuristic search and planning, especially in robotics, Professor Wheeler is interested in solving problems quickly (rational time-bounded decision-making) and in how online learning can inform optimization algorithms.
