Alumni Tale: Michael Hunter ’83

What did you study at UNH?

Mechanical Engineering

What were you doing 1 year out of college?

I was living with my parents and working in their cellar, trying to resurrect a defunct machine tool business.   My Dad suggested I get a real job and get out of there.

What were you doing 5 years out of college?

I was four years into a job at Austin-Gordon Design, designing packaging machinery.  I loved the job but I found something even better.

What were you doing 10 years out of college?

I had my own consulting business, Kinotec Inc., designing production and test machinery.  AutoCAD had changed the process completely.

What are you doing now?

I own H6 Systems Inc. and design high power transmitters for the Army and Navy.

How do you feel your time at UNH has had an impact on where you are today?

CEPS (College of Engineering and Physical Sciences) turned me into an engineer through heat and pressure.  I can never be anything else.

Why do you believe in UNH?

I saw it.  I was there.  It’s real.
