Alumni Tale: Anne Detlefsen ’06

What did you study at UNH?

What were you doing one year out of college?

I started the year freelancing for Golf Digest and ended it as a sports producer for The Record’s website in Hackensack, N.J.

What were you doing five years out of college?

I was living in New York City and working at Sports Illustrated, on their golf website. I was editing writers I had looked up to while I was in college, while learning to shoot video and navigate social media for the brand. It was my dream job.

What are you doing now?

I moved my life down to Florida four years ago to work for the PGA Tour and gain more experience in the golf world. I work in the digital department, covering live events and creating and editing content for I get to watch golf for a living. I can’t complain.

How do you feel your time at UNH has had an impact on where you are today?

The experience I gained as the editor of TNH was invaluable. Not everything we did while putting out that newspaper was perfect but I think that was the point. We learned so much about journalism, responsibility and editing through our missteps. Plus, the connections that were made during all those late production nights are some of the greatest and lasting friendships in my life. I also wouldn’t have had a shot at the SI job if it weren’t for a fellow alum I had stayed in touch with, and that job opened a lot of doors for me.
