Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some commonly asked questions about the UNH CONNECT Program.

  • “Is the UNH CONNECT Program really free?”
    • CONNECT is free to all applicants that identify as a student of color, first generation and/or low-income. Thanks to funding from a grant for CONNECT STEM, and the university for CONNECT Classic, there is no cost to register or participate in the program. Some students may bring spending money during one of our off campus trips, but it is not required.
  • “Can commuter students participate in CONNECT STEM or Classic?”
    • Yes, many commuter students participate, and free parking is available in A-Lot (past the Whittemore Center)
  • “I received an invitation to join TRIO Scholars in the fall. Am I able to participate in both CONNECT and TRIO Scholars?”
    •  Yes, you can! Both programs will prepare you to hit the ground running in your personal and academic career at UNH! If you are eligible for TRIO Scholars, we highly recommend you sign up for both!
  • “When do I find out if I'm selected for CONNECT STEM or Classic?”
    • All participants will receive an email (to personal and UNH) immediately after applications close.
  • “I require accommodations to participate in CONNECT. Are there resources to help me during the year?”
  • “I have dietary/food allergies. Will food be labeled properly?”
    • UNH dining has a list for those with dietary restrictions that can be found here.  You will be able to look at menus for Holloway Commons during the week and academic year.
  • “I’m living on campus (with or without a roommate) in the fall. Will I be moving into the same residence hall, or a different one during the summer?”
    • All on campus students will move into the residence hall assigned to them by Housing. If you have a roommate, reach out to them to figure out what items you may be bringing for the school year. Move-in details will be provided after summer applications close.
  • “When will I receive a copy of the CONNECT STEM or Classic Schedule?”
    • Schedules will be provided on Sunday move-in dates. Each participant will receive a nametag they must wear throughout the program, and a folder with relevant resources for the week.
  • “Can I work my part-time job/internship during  CONNECT STEM or Classic?”
    • It will be difficult juggling either a job or internship with the summer program. Both summer tracks have a comprehensive schedule for all participants to be ready for their transition to college. All students are encouraged to be fully engaged throughout the summer program. If you have a special circumstance, please contact the Coordinator at connect.program@unh.edu.
  • “If I cannot participate in CONNECT STEM or Classic, can I still join CONNECT in the fall?”
    • Yes, you can! Some first years and transfer students join in the fall. We ask that you complete the application indicating your wish to join in the fall so that you are matched with a Peer Mentor for the academic year.
