Snapchat is a video and photo sharing app that tips towards a younger audience between 18-24. The platform thrives on personal interactions through direct messages or story posts. Snapchat is one of the major social media platforms amongst teens and young adults with 191 million monthly active users.
In November 2017, Snapchat redesigned its entire app, pushing brands to the side and reorganizing the menus to promote connections and engagement between individuals. Brand stories were no longer shown in the friends list of stories but instead shoved to a different screen, generating diminishing numbers. The viewership at UNH was nearly cut in half by the overhaul and with Instagram creating more and more features for its own version of Snapchat stories, it’s an uphill battle for the video and photo platform, in our opinion. UNH does not use Snapchat as a regular social media outlet.
The UNH community is encouraged to create and submit a free Community Geofilter for the university or a public location, although UNH brand logos are not allowed. Organizations, departments, and colleges can purchase On-Demand Geofilters for an event or a specific location. Brand logos and trademarks are permitted. Remember to use web-optimized, transparent PNG files at 1080x1920. A buffer zone on the top and bottom is recommended and avoid creating geofilters that are borders around the entire phone screen.
